ORO ALLA PATRIA
2019
Oro alla Patria researches developmentalist and colonialist power structures in fascist Italy, through the history of the rationalist architecture built in its former African colonies. The project combines landscapes, failed utopias and different staging strategies, in order to rethink today’s forms of colonialism and totalitarianism. I approach the topic from the point of view of my own heritage of mixed identity (Peruvian-Italian). In the narrative of the project I point out unusual resonances by connecting events that, despite being physically and temporally as distant as the Peruvian and African colonial pasts, share uncanny similarities. For these initial pieces I focused on the case of Libya and developed a series of sculptures, a video and a text.
